NY raised and passionate about all things art since childhood, Mary chose to study architecture after high school. Soon thereafter, her true calling would emerge. Desiring a more free spirited outlet to her boundless creativity, Mary moved to Florida and accepted a position in the prop department of the BurtReynolds theatre. Hard work, passion and high energy saw her position rise to Prop Master. During thistime Mary began to explore decorative painting/finishes as a side project. Quickly the side projectblossomed to a growing business and thus Mary left the theatre and founded Grand Illusions in 1992. A lifelong passion, Mary avidly hones her craft by taking advanced technique classes from industry masters, reading endless design books/magazines, keenly pouring over color decks and alwayskeeping her fingers on the pulse of fresh ideas and trends. As the saying goes, “time flies when you’rehaving fun”. Grand Illusions has been blazing trails of inspiration and bringing clients visions to life forover 22 years.
Florida raised, Gretchen’s foray into the arts began with an apprenticeship with a paper hanger duringhigh school. This exposure to design/interior decor sparked an interest in creating the elaborate designs by hand. After graduating high school, Gretchen began an apprenticeship with Mary. A quick learner and passionate about the industry, Gretchen skillfully masteredawide variety of difficult techniques. In 2003 a business partnership was formed. Always looking for fresh ideas and staying ontop of trends is apassion that continues to inspire clients and colleagues alike. “Find something you love to do and you’ll never have to work a day in your life” Gretchen feels blessed to be doing what she loves.
